New Bug Trail in Great Ayton

Thompsons Timberworks are busy in Great Ayton today installing the posts for our new Bug Trail. The trail tells the story of Great Ayton’s High Street through the eyes of pollinators.

From tomorrow you can pick up a leaflet and trail booklet from the entrance of the Great Ayton Discovery Centre and also download a Bug Trail app from App Store or Google Play. The booklet has places to record rubbings from 7 posts at key spots in the village. Once the Discovery Centre fully re-opens, hopefully in April, you will be able to get a sticker if you take the completed booklet to the Great Ayton Tourist Information Centre desk.

Thank you to all those who helped research the history, particularly members of Great Ayton History Society. The trail has been made possible by money raised by National Lottery players through a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant and will be maintained thanks to a grant from Great Ayton Parish Council.

Thanks to Daniel Van der Toorn of Toorn Designs for the fantastic engravings and to Studio Botez for the design work on the web page, app, leaflets and booklet. Thank you to Yatton House Society for printing the booklet and leaflets. Thank you to the Parish Council and Broadacres Housing Association for permission to install the posts.
