The image below, created using Wordle, shows the herbs grown in the gardens of 22 of those who came to our Hunt for Herbs afternoon. The larger the word the more people grow the herb e.g. 21 people said they grew mint but only 1 person said they grew feverfew. Having listened to the talks, people are going to plant herbs such as sweet cicely and lemon verbana.
The full list of 26 herbs grown was: angelica, basil, bay, borage, camomile, chives, coriander, dill, fennel, feverfew, horseradish, lavender, lemon balm, lovage, marjoram, mint, oregano, parsley, ransoms, rosemary, sage, sorrel, tansy, tarragon, thyme and wormwood.
Poets Cottage Shrub Nursery, in Lealholm, has provided over 75 herb plants for stations in the area and those who attended our Hunt for Herbs afternoon funded through the Land of Iron grant. The nursery has a wide range of herbs that they have propagated themselves or sourced from within Yorkshire.
