Around 40 people came along to the Ley Hall, Lealholm on the 24th June 2018 to hear about historical uses of herbs, how to use them in cooking and how to grow them. The speakers were:
- Wendy English, Botany Recorder for Whitby Naturalists, introduced us to the wild herbs that can be found locally;
- Carol Wilson, historian and author of Flora of Westerdale (publication pending), talked about the historical use of herbs;
- Barbara Beveridge, from Seasonal Salads, gave us some hints and tips on growing herbs and
- Lisa Chapman, restauranteur for ‘To Dine For’, shared ideas on using herbs in cooking.
The audience enjoyed hedgerow wines and cordials, with herb related nibbles and biscuits. Recipes using herbs shared on the day can be found on our Herbs in Cooking page.
