Based on our experience of living and working in the area, the Directors of Moor Sustainable identified the need for a social enterprise to source funding and manage/undertake projects to help to ensure a sustainable future.  Our activities will benefit the community through improving our environment, helping to cut carbon and strengthening our communities.

Members of the group have already been involved in such projects but the funding has previously been channelled either through a non-local CIC or through a private limited company. As a social enterprise, we have access to more funding opportunities than does  a private limited company.

We hope that the projects supported by Moor Sutainable CIC will also provide local people with the chance to gain work experience through voluntary/paid work in areas such as: energy reduction, efficiency and generation; biodiversity; transport; community and culture.

Moor Sustainable CIC has been set up to benefit in particular the communities of the north end of the North York Moors and between the Moors and the River Tees, from the coast in the east to the A19 in the west: this is the area covered by the old Langbaurgh wapentake – the historical old Cleveland.  This area is beginning to be referred to as North East Yorkshire.
